Before going to South Africa, I spent hours researching routes, surf spots, and all the must-see stops. I knew I wanted to experience the country’s iconic landscapes and wildlife, but I also really wanted to surf. As a beginner, though, I wasn’t sure where I’d actually feel comfortable in the water.
After lots of research I created my own South Africa travel itinerary. I pieced together a route that included some of the country’s most popular highlights but added a slight detour here and there to catch beginner-friendly waves. It wasn’t planned down to the minute, but it ended up being a great balance of surf, travel, nature, and chill.
If you’re a beginner surfer, or traveling with one, maybe my travel itinerary can give you some ideas for your own trip.
I spent 5 weeks in South Africa over Christmas and New Years together with my boyfriend. We travelled around the country, surfed at different beginner surf spots and saw some of the country’s most famous and beautiful attractions that I want to share with you if you’re also planning a trip to South Africa.
